In place of their annual conference, Cyrenians Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution is holding a series of free events in October to bring together speakers, filmmakers, writers and artists from around the world who will talk from their heart and experience, combined with the opportunity to engage in interactive workshops and the arts.
This exciting programme, that features events hosted by world-renowned special guests live from Canada, America and Australia, includes:
A private film-screening of ‘Nae Pasaran’ with the BAFTA Scotland award-winning documentary’s creator Felipe Bustos Sierra followed by a Q&A to launch the conference on the 1st October at 7:00pm.
’10 Secrets of Stronger Relationships’ webinar by Karen Holford, a family therapist and relationships expert with over 15 years’ experience, on the 6th October at 3pm.
To mark World Homelessness Day next month, on the 9th at 12:30pm we are delighted to announce that we will have a 2-hour long youth homelessness panel event 'The past, the present & the future'. The panel is to be composed of individuals from organisations who are dedicated to ending youth homelessness; Cyrenians, Rock Trust, A Way Home Scotland and A Way Home Canada.
SCCR’s Andrew Boyd has invited a fellow mediator, Abbey Krause, to co-host their 'I know how I feel but what do I do?' workshop and Q&A on the 14th of October at 11am. Through exploring our 5 emotional states, Andrew and Abbey hope the event will enable us all to harness our emotions to conquer conflict.
SCCR’s Trainer Duncan Gordon, who may be a familiar face from our free online training sessions, will be hosting an event with his expertise on conflict resolution on 15th October at 10:30am.
Head of Schools for Head of Schools for Renfrewshire Council Gordon McKinlay will be hosting an interesting webinar entitled ‘Nurturing Wellbeing’ at 11:30am on the 20th which will no doubt be beneficial to parents, carers, and professionals alike.
A bespoke and helpful event for parents and carers ‘Strengthening the Relationship Between You and Your Teen’ on the 22nd at 10am by Karen Young, founder of the internationally popular online resource Hey Sigmund and contributor to the Huffington Post who will be speaking live from Australia.
For the beginning of the final week of the conference, on the 27th at 2pm Cyrenians CEO Ewan Aitken will interview of Professor Alison Phipps for an interesting discussion exploring a variety of our key themes.
An exciting ‘Channelling Anger Through Martial Arts’ workshop with Raz Chan; a jiu-jitsu black belt, bestselling author and speaker on utilising exercise and determination to master your mental performance. Raz will be presenting live from Canada on the 28th at 6pm.
On the 29th at 5pm, the final event will be an exclusive Q&A between QC Stephen O’Rourke, an Advocate at the Scottish Bar, and Gary Friedman, successful author of mediation and conflict resolution and trainer for the Center for Mediation in Law who will be joining us from California. Their joint-event is entitled ‘'The Understanding Model of Mediation: meeting the challenge of mediation's promise'.
